Riding the Wave
Well. This was a nice surprise. I went from 15 unique visitors on my soft launch Friday… to (as of Oct 18 2005 6:58PM MST) 3265. 16,955 total hits.
For the most part, that credit belongs to Stylegala and Colly’s awfully nice review, and of course, because of other great galleries. I’m a bit blown away, but pleased, with the glowing response! I want to say that I appreciate all the kudos from every which one of you that added me to their del.icio.us links or their bloglines or their linklog. I’m especially honoured that some of those happen to be people I highly respect. I also appreciate all the little oopsies people caught for me, which I fixed lickety split. :-)
Before I go any further, I want to address an issue: Firefox 1.5 doesn’t currently display the body background gradient to be properly anchored to the bottom of the document. I understand it sticks to the bottom of the viewport instead, but the behaviour is erratic. Several people have pointed this bug out to me, so if you are experiencing this behaviour, it’s because of a browser bug. A friend of mine filed a bug report on Mozilla, so if you want to go vote to get that fixed ASAP, that would be great. This is simple, basic browser behaviour that should be addressed immediately. *update:* I forgot to mention, this bug is also present in Opera. (spanks browser)
At any rate, as I’ve already mentioned, I will go into detail over the process it took to get me to this point. It will be a three-part series called The Art of Self-Branding. Part One will focus on the research, definition of branding, and my thought process as I start to build this current brand. Part Two focuses on the identity: the logo and package itself. Part Three will talk about the website you’re looking at now, and how I got to this point and tied everything together.
Anyway, I just wanted to drop by in the midst of all this craziness to let you know that I’m happy that so many of you deem my website worthwhile, and I hope you continue visiting.
And, yes, I’m available for freelance work at the moment. Let’s talk! :-D

From 15 to 3,265 unique visitors, all from style galleries? That sounds familiar, as something similar happened to me last May.
I love the site, especially the way you’ve gone with a simple yet highly sophisticated design. And the text is great (sIFR I see?).
One quick criticism though, is with the text size of your date/comments/permalink text at the bottom of this post (and any text set to that size). It looks horrible on a Mac, particularly this OS X 10.4.2 G4 with Firefox 1.0.7. I noticed text on my own site that does the same thing and I wanted to point it out to you.
Good luck! This site is definitely an inspiration to designers like myself.

I had the font size set to .75 ems, and I increased it to .85… I liked the smaller way it looked. Mac users, did my small increase make any difference?
Also, thanks Patrick! I’m glad you like it! My face is the same colour as this site.
I’m up to 4753 unique visitors for the past couple of days now. :-D Insane!

That’s what getting linked by Sir Inman will do to you.. =)
And of course, being (obviously) a great designer and blogger helps, too… Looking forward to ‘The Art of Self-Branding’!
The type looks good on my OSX 10.4 Safari, at least, by the way…

Gorgeous site! Always happy to see women get recognised for web design, it doesn’t happen very often does it?
I dont have a problem reading the date/comment/permalink text, but the date and time text under the comment authors’ name is super tiny. Of course, I’m on a 1920 x 1200 resolution Apple display right now, so it may not be such a big deal.
Did I mention I also love your logo?

Found your site via Jeff Croft’s blog. It really is a beautiful bit of work!
But dangit, I was penciling out a couple of things for a new site of mine that you ended up doing (and better than I could’ve). *sigh* Back to the drawing board. :}
Best of luck with the venture. You’ve presented a wonderful face for your design talents.

Congrats and much deserved recognition. The wait was worth it. All the best to you, Lea.

And you’re giving me traffic too! That’s what’s great about showcases: When a person is featured, (s)he may want to link to the gallery and give it traffic.
Your site is lovely, by the way!
